Arkansas State University will host the 2013 Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Women's and Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships, Feb.24 & 25, at the Convention Center, Jonesboro.

The university is hosting this championship for the second time in the last three years. Last year, Middle Tennessee University's Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn., hosted the event.

The first day of this two day championship will feature field events and men's and women's distance medley and meter trails.

The second day will include 55-meter hurdles in the pentathlon, women's weight throw, triple jump events and 4x400-meter relay for both men and women.

"Both the men's and women's teams have performed well so far this indoor season and we're looking forward to seeing how we fare in the conference championships," ASU head coach Jim Patchell, told Today'sthv.

Patchell said that organising this event is a bonus for the university teams as they always perform better on home tracks and training sessions at the Convocation Center.

Solomon Williams, one of the ASU participants, told the ASU Herald that having the tournament here not only gives them an advantage; they will also have the added support of their friends and classmates.

The other teams participating in the championship are Arkansas Little Rock, South Alabama, Middle Tennessee, Western Kentucky, Georgia State, North Texas, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Louisiana-Monroe.
