Arizona State University is offering six online safety training sessions on how to handle varied emergency situations to students, faculty and staff members.

These training sessions are 20 minute videos featuring topics such as how to survive gunshots fired on campus, how to recognize and prevent an active shooter situation, how to recognize and prevent workplace violence and intimate partner violence and stalking, among others

"They go into some pretty good detail on what someone should do in various types of emergencies on campus," ASU Police Department assistant police chief Jim Hardina, told az central. "It can be applicable to workplace, shopping malls, anywhere. The principles are the same but it's kind of tailored to campus."

In order to access the videos, individuals need to have an ASURITE account.

Hardina said that if an individual gets stuck in a high-stress emergency situation plus he/she is not aware of the escape plans/routes, then that person won't be able to think wisely and would just freeze.

This video will help them learn how to prepare, act and avoid potentially catastrophic emergencies so that they do not panic and act immediately to the situation.

Hardina said that the police department often gets requests from student groups for tips/suggestions about what to do in various emergency situations. As a result, the department posted some videos on the university's website so that it is accessible to everyone on campus.

The department would still be giving presentations/drills, when requested.
