The American Public University (APU) has awarded Christopher Rumble its first APU Volunteer Award, Jan 30, for his active involvement in community development.
Rumble, a student of APU, was diagnosed with cancer in April 2012.
While receiving his treatment at Seattle Children's Hospital, Rumble produced a music video set to the music of Kelly Clarkson's song "Stronger," which featured children who were also battling cancer.
The video was very well-received and appeared on many news channels across the nation.
"APU ambassadors exemplify the qualities of leadership, scholarship, and commitment to the mission of our university system. These students and graduates have been recognized in professional and social circles and recommended by our APU community," Nadya Garcia-Batiz, manager of community and spirit programs, told Kent Reporter.
Apart from taking an online course, Rumble is also attending Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., where he is a member of the school's hockey team.
American Military University (AMU) graduate Al Tyas received the AMU Golden Eagle Award.
Tyas has been honoured for his continuous contributions and dedication to the university.
He completed his M.A. in military history from AMU. During his tenure at the university, Tyas served as a university ambassador, advocate, a vocal mentor to new students via social media and has assisted many of his classmates.
Tyas still continues to maintain ties with the university and community.
The AMU Golden Eagle Award and the APU Volunteer Award are given to students/alumni for their accomplishments made outside the institution.
