Academias from Indonesia and the United States have launched the Indonesian Scholarship and Research Support Foundation (ISRSF) initiative to produce world-class scholars.

The initiative is looking for 20 scholars, especially women, from Indonesia.

Currently, three men have joined the project and are pursuing their studies in Chicago's Northwestern University.

Every year, the foundation selects four Indonesian scholars to receive Ph.D-level training in the social sciences and public policy fields.

Once the scholars finish their education, they can join educational institutions as faculty or get involved in ground-breaking research and publication projects.

This year, the foundation will finalise its candidates by April who will be sent to the U.S. in June. The deadline for registration process is Jan. 31, every year.

"We aim to invest in talented and committed Indonesians who are passionate to read and write even when access to books is difficult. We plan to prepare such dedicated scholars to be world-class scholars because our Indonesian colleagues need such global empowerment," Jeffrey Winters, chairman, ISRSF's board of trustees, told Jakarta Post.

For the initiative, ISRF is also collaborating with Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, Cambridge University and the Australian National University.
