Drexel University Online and Drexel University School of Education have launched a School Principal Certificate program.

This online certificate program, starting this spring, is aimed at students/professionals interested in top administrative jobs in educational institutions.

It will be led by Dr. Allen Grant, director of Educational Administration for the School of Education.

He has more than 20 years of educational experience, half of which he spent as an early childhood teacher.

Grant has also served in various managerial positions in the Louisiana Department of Education and the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

At the end of the program, students will have learnt about current theories and strategies required in leadership and educational change.

Hagan said that if students complete this certificate program, plus meet all state requirements, they will be recommended for the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Pennsylvania Administrative Certificate, Principal K-12 License.

The topics for this program include heuristic diagnostic learning, intelligent use of emotions in interpersonal skills of leadership, creative problem solving and learning technologies.

"Drexel's School Principal Certificate enables outstanding teachers holding a Master's degree the opportunity to gain the practical skills and knowledge to become effective school administrators," Grant said.

Grant said that professionals/students interested in management activities can complete this course at their leisure time.

"Not only are we offering a set of new certificates to diversify an educator's skills and credentials, we are making it easier for them to transition to a master's program," William Lynch, dean of the School of Education said. "Credits from up to four completed certificates can be applied to the Master of Science in Education Improvement and Transformation."

Additional professional certificates offered by these two institutes are in creativity and innovation, educational policy, evaluation and assessment, leadership in educational settings, learning technologies, and urban education.
