Tom Brokaw, a television journalist and anchor of 'NBC Nightly News', will be receiving an honorary doctorate from Loyola University during its spring 2013 College of Law commencement ceremony, May.11.

Apart from Brokaw, veteran jazz vocalist Germaine Bazzle and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and current New York Times managing editor, Dean Baquet, will also be receiving the degrees at the ceremony.

Mary Matalin and James Carville, two well-known political strategists and pundits will deliver the keynote addresses.

Brokaw began his stint with NBC in 1966 and covered various events such as Ronald Reagan's first run for public office, the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy and the 1968 presidential campaign.

Later, he became the White House correspondent, and the main backup of 'NBC Nightly News.'

Within the next few years, he was appointed as anchor and managing director of the show - 'NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw.'

Brokaw also produced several documentaries on varied issues such as AIDS, Los Angeles gangs, race, education, medicine, immigration and global warming.

He penned his first book - 'The Greatest Generation' in 1998. This book is credited as the most popular non-fiction in the 20th century.

Due to his incredible work and achievements in his journalism career, Brokaw has been conferred with the Peabody, DuPont's, Emmy and lifetime achievement awards.
