Two New Orleans music legends, Dr.John and Allen Touissant will receive honorary degrees in fine arts from Tulane University during its 2013 commencement ceremony, May 18.

Known for producing hit songs, both musicians are Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees.

Dr.John has also won five Grammy Awards.

Tibetian Spiritual Leader, Dalai Lama, will be delivering the keynote address at the ceremony, which will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

"The Dalai Lama's message of compassion, humanity, equality, peace and service truly resonates with the Tulane community and its graduates," Tulane President Scott Cowen said.

The university will also confer an honorary doctorate of humane letters to Dalai Lama and Natasha Trethewey, the U.S. poet laureate and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for poetry.

Dr. John's latest album, 'Locked Down,' was nominated for Best Blues Album at the Grammies this year.

'Locked Down' features one-of-a-kind blend of voodoo mysticism, funk, rhythm and blues, psychedelic rock and Creole roots music.

'Right Place Wrong Time' song in funk musical genre is still considered Dr.John's best composition, even after 40 years since its inception.

On the other hand, Cowen described Toussaint as one of the most influential songwriters, composers and producers in the contemporary music industry.

His popular numbers include 'Working in the Coalmine', 'Ride Your Pony', 'Fortune Teller',' Play Something Sweet', 'Southern Nights', among others.
