Higher Learning Commission (HLC), an accrediting organisation from Chicago has decided to continue its recognition of Colorado Technical University.

The next accreditation review will take place in the academic year 2022-2023.

Meanwhile the university was requested to submit two interim monitoring reports to HLC by July 2013 and will undergo a detailed review in 2016-17 academic year.

"We are gratified the Higher Learning Commission extended our accreditation and appreciate the thoroughness, thoughtfulness and level of engagement the commission demonstrated during this extensive review process," Jack Koehn, acting president, CTU said.

Accrediting organizations such as HLC set certain academic and operational standards, which are checked periodically.

HLC was founded in 1895 and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Apart from evaluating educational activities, HLC also examines governance, administration, financial stability, admissions, student services, institutional resources, student learning, institutional effectiveness and relationships with internal and external constituencies.

Universities around the world seek accreditation to obtain federal financial aid, employment opportunities, professional licensure and graduate education.

Accreditation in undergraduate and graduate programs attracts more number of students as they meet certain quality standards in higher education.

It also allows the institution to measure its success rate and further allows making necessary changes in one's management activities.
