The Eastern Michigan University has roped in two scholars to serve as directors on Michigan Education Trust Board.
The two appointees will join the Michigan Department of Treasury. The nine-person committee serves as an advisory board for the Michigan Education Savings Program.
Gov. Rick Snyder announced the appointment of Robert Ferrentino of Greenville, and the reappointment of Susan Martin of Ypsilanti, to the Michigan Education Trust board of directors.
Snyder lauded the two appointees' role and interest in the betterment of the university. "I appreciate their willingness to serve in these roles," he said in press statement.
Appointees have been signed in as directors for the Michigan Education Trust board for a three-year term that expires Dec. 31, 2015. Meanwhile, their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
Brief profiles of Robert and Susan:
Martin is president of Eastern Michigan University, a position she has held since 2008. She previously served as provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs for the University of Michigan - Dearborn. Martin also held various leadership positions with Grand Valley State University and the state of Michigan. She earned a bachelor's degree in public speaking from Central Michigan University. She has a master's degree in business administration and Ph.D. in accounting, both from Michigan State University. She will continue to represent presidents of four-year public universities.
Ferrentino is president of Montcalm Community College. He previously held various leadership positions with Muskegon Community College, including vice president for academic affairs, dean of instruction and dean of occupational programs. Ferrentino also served as the management and marketing program director and as director of marketing services at Lansing Community College. From Northern Illinois University, he holds a bachelor's degree in marketing and a master's degree in business administration, and he received a degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Ferrentino will represent presidents of community colleges and replaces Gail Mee.
