A basketball game between two high schools turned bloody following a shootout in which a 20-year-old man was shot dead Wednesday.
The firing occurred outside a Chicago Public School's high school basketball game at Chicago State University, according to media reports. The man who was killed in the violent incident is yet to be identified. The reports indicted an aggressive argument between two groups in a handshake line after the game.
The firing took place around 9:20 p.m. outside the campus gymnasium near 95th Street and King Drive, said police news affairs officer Daniel O'Brien, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The victim with gunshot injury was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in a critical condition, where he was declared dead.
The police alerted the other officials about the incident. The police also tracked down a jeep, which was allegedly used by the suspects involved in the shootout. The officials also said that they have recovered a gun from the impounded vehicle.
Meanwhile, they have also arrested two people suspected of being involved in the killing.
The Tribune reported that according to the police an argument in a handshake line after the game led to the tragic incident. The argument in question spilled into the parking lot, during which an unidentified person slipped out a weapon and shot the 20-year-old.
Simeon Career Academy and Morgan Park High School played each other Wednesday night. The players in both the team are reportedly safe. They were restricted in their respective locker rooms longer than usual after the game.
