Robert Nkemdiche is in stable condition at an Atlanta hospital after falling about 15 feet outside a hotel, though the specific nature of the fall is still not known.
According to a police report obtained by The Jackson Clarion-Leger, Nkemdiche "broke the window and then walked approximately 15 feet and climbed over a wall and fell approximately 15 feet." The Atlanta Police Department (APD) also noted officers found a small amount of a substance believed to be marijuana in the room where he was staying.
It is not clear what injuries Nkemdiche sustained, if any, and he was conscious when police officers found him Saturday night. An APD spokesman told The Ledger on Sunday he did not know about any charges potentially being filed against Nkemdiche.
"We are still learning about the matter, but obviously Robert's well-being is our greatest concern," Ole Miss head football coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement.
A junior defensive tackle at Ole Miss, Nkemdiche was recently named to the second team All-SEC and was also honored as an Associated Press All-American. He finished this season with 29 tackles, seven for losses and three sacks.
Robert Nkemdiche is considered one of the best NFL draft-eligible players this season, ranking as one of the five best defensive linemen in the class.
Ole Miss is scheduled to play Oklahoma State on New Year's Day for the Sugar Bowl, though his playing status is now in doubt. Nkemdiche's older brother, Denzel, has already been ruled out for the game. A senior linebacker at Ole Miss, Denzel Nkemdiche was hospitalized for an undisclosed reason last month, but his family stated the condition was "not life threatening."
