Universities offering English language and literature programs in the country need to buckle up, as Cambridge University, U.K., has topped in a subject wise survey conducted by QS World University Rankings.

Among American universities, the survey found Harvard University the best institution to study English language and literature with an 8.3 percent overall score and 84 & 97.2 percent in academic and employer reputation respectively.

This score will give the Harvard management immense satisfaction, as it did not fare well in a survey of best Electrical and Engineering Universities. The survey placed the university in seventh position in the world and fourth in the country.

Established in 1701, Yale University achieves fourth place in the list and second best university in the country with an overall score of 82.4 percent. The university scored 81.4 percent in academic department and 91 percent in employer reputation.

The university missed the third spot by 0.3 percent, which is now held by Oxford University with 82.7 percent.

Their graduate program features, African-American Studies, Film Studies, Renaissance Studies, Medieval Studies, Comparative Literature, American Studies, and Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies.

In the World rankings, fifth to ninth positions in the list are dominated by American universities.

Taking the fifth position is University of California, Berkeley, which scored 81.1 percent. This was a relatively lower score when compared to its 96.5 percent for best Electrical Engineering University survey which took the institution to third place in the list.

Missing the fifth spot by 0.1 percent is Columbia University. Out of the three departments, the university scored the highest in employer reputations score with 83.1 percent. Its overall score and academic reputation score are 81 and 80.8 percen,t respectively.

Other popular institutes for English Language and Literature are Stanford University (79.2 percent), Princeton University (78 percent), University of Chicago (77.4 percent), University Of California, LA (76.1) and Duke University (73.4 percent).
