A student died and another was injured in a fight at a supposedly empty International House building at the University of Toledo Wednesday night.
Both were stabbed. One man was found battling for life outside the front of the International House, whereas another was discovered dead, police said, according to news reports.
Police apparently believe that it was not a random attack. They are of the opinion that both knew each other before and also ruled out the third person/s involvement in this case. The officials also reportedly claimed that this incident poses no danger to the campus safety and is an isolated case.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a victim who appeared to have been stabbed and was transported to a local hospital. Shortly after, at 9:23 p.m., officers discovered a second victim who had died from what appears to be injuries caused by a stabbing, said Larry Burns, UT vice president for external affairs, in a press release earlier.
The University community was alerted to the situation at 9:44 p.m. with a UT Alert message of a dangerous situation at International House that advised to stay away from the building.
Given the majority of the students were on the winter break, only a few were staying at the International House, including six students four staff members and four student workers.
Police said that investigation is on. However, they are yet to establish the motive and provide information about the suspects involved in the stabbing incident.
Reports also suggested UT police is yet to frame charges in the case.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, and we will provide additional information as it becomes available," Burns said.
