Thirteen out of the 22 accused in connection with the death of 19-year-old freshman of Northern Illinois University, handed themselves to the police Monday. All of the suspects went to their nearby police departments and surrendered.

The police said that seven of 13, who surrendered at DeKalb police department, were released Tuesday after furnishing bonds. However, at the moment they had no information if other suspects were also released on producing bonds.

Last month, David Bogenberger, a freshman, died following a fraternity drinking binge. At least 22 members of the fraternity were charged with hazing. He died of excessive blood-alcohol level in his body. The blood-alcohol content in his body was found to be about five-times the legal limit.

Bogenberger was found deceased on the morning of Nov. 2, 2012, at the Pike fraternity house located at 1020 W. Hillcrest in DeKalb.

The coroner also indicated excessive consumption of alcohol as cause of Bogenberger's death.

According to police, Bogenberger and others drank large quantities of liquor for nearly two-hours.

"The event that night involved the pledges rotating between several rooms in the fraternity house, being asked a series of questions, and then being provided cups of vodka and other liquor to drink," police said in a statement, according to CBS News.

Meanwhile, the university is pursuing the academical charges against the Pi Kappa Alpha ("Pikes") fraternity and 31 individual students, involved in the drinking party that led to Bogenberger's death, for violating its Student Code of Conduct.

The university announced that students who are found to have violated NIU's Code of Community & Student Standards & Conduct, would face sanctions ranging from a reprimand to expulsion.

"An investigation by the NIU Office of Community Standards & Student Conduct into the events preceding Bogenberger's death revealed that the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity hosted an unsanctioned social event for 19 pledges on the evening of Nov. 1. Fraternity leaders did not officially register this event with their national chapter or Northern Illinois University," said the university in a press release.
