Eastern Michigan University has chalked out many strategies to beef up its campus security system in the wake of an alleged homicide of one of its student, Julia Catherine Niswender.

The university called a meeting to elaborate on developing campus safety last week. More than 200 people took part in the campus safety program and gave some helpful suggestions.

The university has come out with a list of measure to ensure Campus safety for students.

The university released a press release listing these measures. It said that some of these actions were a direct result of comments and suggestions made at the safety forum. Here is a list of specific actions:

-Extended the SEEUS walking/mobile escort service to 7 a.m. (previously ended at 3 a.m.)

-Added additional SEEUS escort staff

-Designated Halle Library as a station for SEEUS walking and mobile escorts between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m.

-Added four additional campus security personnel in the overnight hours

-Added two additional officers to patrol from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. in addition to the normal shift coverage.

-Adjusted lighting sensors to brighten exterior security lighting in the areas adjacent to Halle Library and the College of Business.

-Adjusted the automatic timing patterns of the exterior lighting in the areas adjacent to Halle Library and the College of Business to have them turn on earlier (4:30 p.m. - 30 minutes before sunset) and to stay on later (8:30 a.m. - 30 minutes after sunrise)

A reminder, the SEEUS walking and mobile escort service can be requested by called 734-487-3387 (734-48-SEEUS).

Julia's body was discovered by the Ypsilanti Police last week in mysterious circumstances at her off-campus apartment. The 23-year-old victim was found dead in her apartment bedroom. Her apartment is located in 1000 block of Huron River Drive.

The authorities reached her apartment after one of her friends reported that Niswender hadn't been seen for several days. The police are pursuing this case as homicide. However, they are yet to identify a possible suspect in connection with her death.
