The University of Colorado made thousands of emails public that shed more light on James Holmes, who opened fire earlier this year in a midnight showing at a theater in Denver
The university released the emails on requests from media organizations.
According to media reports, the released documents include the emails written by Holmes himself or by others in the university referring to him in the shooting incident.
The university recovered around 3000 mails and over 1500 have references to Holmes. The rest have been withheld by the university claiming that they contained private details of thousands of students and revealing them would violate the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
Holmes had a girlfriend, who was in India at the time of the attack. He had a few friends, though none in the neuroscience program he had just left, reported 9news.com
"Horrible news. There are several students with the name James Holmes. This one is 24 and lives in north Aurora and makes me wonder if this is the one whom we know," FOX31 Denver reported that Angie Ribera, director of the University of Colorado's neuroscience suspected Holmes may have been a student on campus.
Holmes quit neuroscience graduate program after failing in exams in June. He reportedly did not have any friends from the neuroscience department.
"However, he was friendly with 1-2 students in another program and I am worried about the safety of all (neuroscience) students and Faculty as well as the safety of all (medical) students," read Ribera's email.
Holmes', a former student of Colorado University, withdrew from a graduate program, merely a month before he shot down several people during the midnight showing of the "Dark Night Rises" at a theater in the suburbs of Denver.
In June, Holmes allegedly fired at the innocent moviegoers and killed 12, besides injuring 58.
