University of Vermont Police has claimed that the chain of violent incidents on the campus Monday night, including stabbing, happened over an alleged drug deal.

According to reports, two men from Pittsburgh visited the college, in a bid to rob drugs from a student with the help of their friend at the university.

Four men were involved in the incident, including university students Eli Baron, Jarrett Clark and two others from Pennsylvania. Clark reportedly had the LCD drug.

"Four men were involved in an assault and robbery on campus. These subjects were sort of known or affiliated with one another, that some people were looking for drugs and other people had drugs," UVM police chief Lianne Tuomey said, according to WCAX.com.

Clark knifed the other men, when they tried to rob him of his drugs. He reportedly pulled out the knife after he was hit on the head by them.

Joshua Mossburg, from Pittsburgh, was arrested for assault and robbery, reported Boston.com.

All the injured were later shifted to hospital for treatment. Clark was arrested for possession of drugs and released later.

On the other hand, Vermont students were angry with the college authorities for not informing them about the Monday night incident immediately. They were upset that officials failed to keep them in the loop about the incident through the college warning system.

Tuomey said that students were kept in the dark about the incident for a while due to some technical failure in the emergency notification email system.

"There was a technological failure that happened. We did alert the community and it didn't work. The one medium, the email, didn't go out to the student population," WCAX.com reported Tuomey saying.
