Jon Embree was fired Sunday as head football coach of University of Colorado by athletic director Mike Bohn. The ousted football handler was sacked just two years after he signed a five-year agreement with the university.

Under Embree's watch the Colorado football team has played two seasons and just won four games out of 25 matches. He took charge as the school's 24th full-time head coach in Dec 2010.

In two seasons, his team compiled a 4-21 record. This past fall, CU finished 1-11, which included a 1-8 record in Pac-12 Conference play, noted the university in a statement.

Embree became a bit emotional Monday during his farewell news conference. He claimed that he could have resurrected the game of the university's football team by taking shortcuts in the classroom and on the recruiting trail.

"If you just hire the next guy and say you've got two years, keep your fingers crossed," he said, according to The Associated Press. "Shortcuts are not going to be an answer and we're not going to hire a coach that expects to use shortcuts."

"We firmly believe a change in the leadership in our football program is in the best interests of the University of Colorado, particularly given our goal to compete at the highest levels of the Pac-12 Conference," read a joint statement released by the university authorities involved in dismissing Embree.

"It was a difficult decision, given Jon Embree's history with CU, and one we arrived at after considerable deliberation. We appreciate his passion and dedication and wish him the best," they added.

"We strive for excellence in all we do, and the university leadership is committed to doing everything we can to ensure success for our football program, for which we are accountable. We thank you, the entire university community, for your support during this challenging season and call upon you to join us in our efforts for a successful transition and future for the CU football program," the officials said.

The college declared that Bohn will turn his attention immediately in forming a search committee to identify candidates for the coaching vacancy and to work with current assistant coaches in aiding in the transition.
