The NCAA cleared Caleb Swanigan, Purdue's highly touted incoming freshman power forward, to play basketball this season.

The school confirmed to ESPN Friday that Swanigan was cleared for the 2015-2016 season, signaling the NCAA wrapped up its investigation and found no impermissible activity.

Bleacher Report first reported last week that the NCAA was looking into Swanigan's relationship with Roosevelt Barnes, a Purdue alum and a certified sports agent who adopted Swanigan a few years ago. Shortly before, Bleacher Report detailed Swanigan's journey from being a homeless 14-year-old to one of the most highly recruited big men in his high school class.

Swanigan initially committed to Michigan State and was also considering Cal and Purdue. However, he de-committed from Michigan State and chose Purdue. In Bleacher Report's feature piece, Barnes stated he had no ulterior motives for adopting Swanigan.

"I adopted Biggie because I loved him unconditionally," Barnes, 57, said. "I wanted to show him that, no matter what happened, I wasn't going anywhere. I felt like it was my responsibility as a man to help this kid, because no one else was going to do it."

The Purdue Boilermakers are coming into the season ranked 23rd in the Associated Press' Top 25 preseason poll and may be a dark horse to compete for the Big Ten.
