Oklahoma State Homecoming Parade Crash: Adacia Chambers To Be Arraigned Monday Afternoon
ByAdacia Chambers will be arraigned in Payne County District Court and will likely face charges of second-degree murder for crashing into a crowd of people during the Oklahoma State University (OSU) football homecoming parade.
Citing an unnamed employee of the court, The Tulsa World reported Chambers would appear in front of Judge Kathy Thomas on Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. She has been held at Payne County Jail without bond.
Four people died in the crash: two OSU employees, a student at the University of Central Oklahoma, and the two-year-old son of an OSU student. Several others were injured and some are in serious condition due to their wounds.
The Stillwater Police Department noted in a new release that second-degree murder carries a 10-year prison sentence. Chambers will likely be charged with four counts.
Tony Coleman, an attorney representing Chambers, told the "Today" show his client was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol and indicated she is not mentally well. However, he stated Chambers was "medicated on a cocktail of medications," though it did not factor into the crash.
"We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of these wonderful individuals," OSU President Burns Hargis said in a statement. "Marvin and Bonnie Stone were dedicated OSU employees who will be missed by their many OSU friends. Nicolette Strauch is an OSU student-employee devastated by the loss of her two-year-old son Nash.
"We offer our condolences to the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma and to OSU's students from India on the loss of UCO student Nakita Prabhakar. We also send our thoughts and prayers to all those who are recovering from this incomprehensible tragedy, including a number of OSU students and employees."
The Oklahoma State football team held a moment of silence before its homecoming game against Kansas, which they won 58-10.
