After a three-year hiatus, British pop sensation Adele is greeting her fans with the lead single from her forthcoming third studio album, "25."
Grammy-winning sensation finally released "Hello" on Friday, after teasing fans with a snippet of the song in a 30-second TV ad shown Sunday during the talent show "The X Factor," The Associated Press reported. The accompanying six-minute music video, directed by French-Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan, was released the same day.
The visual, which "follows Adele picking up the pieces of a failed relationship with her ex, played by Tristan Wilds ("The Wire," "90210)," is the first music video shot using IMAX cameras, according to Entertainment Weekly.
"The shots on IMAX are two shots: mostly the finale on that pond, and there's the shot of her opening her eyes," Dolan told Entertainment Weekly of the visual which was filmed last month on a farm in London.
In the beginning of the short-film visual, Adele appears to be getting reacquainted with a house that appears to have been abandoned long enough for the furniture to collect a substantial amount of dust. This imagery evokes the singer's return to music.
"I love an introduction like that. It just seemed nice: she had been gone for three or four years. So she's settling in and taking all of those curtains and sheets off, ripping them down from the walls. It's like Adele coming back home. It felt neat and fitting that she would sort of sit down and open her eyes as if she had awakened," Dolan said.
The music video has racked up more than 22 million views in less than 24 hours and "Hello" is already No. 1 on iTunes.
Adele's follow-up to her Grammy-award winning album, "21" is slated to be released next month.
