After weeks of speculation and hope, the family of 18-year-old Christian Aguilar can finally have some peace and closure.

At a news conference Saturday, Carlos Aguilar, father of Christian Aguilar, said that the body found Friday matches the description of his son and they believe it's indeed him.

"We, as a family, believe that Christian has been found and our prayers have been heard," Carlos Aguilar told reporters.

The body was found at the hunting grounds near Levy County. Forensics have not yet confirmed the identity of the body. According to a post on Facebook, officials are not expected to give the confirmation until Tuesday.

Fred Oliver, a volunteer with the Levy County Sheriff's Office, told news4jax that hunters discovered a body on the grounds of the Gulf Hammock Hunting Club, a private club with about 300 members. He also added that authorities are confident that it is indeed the missing student's body.

Christian was a biomedical engineering major at the University of Florida and was last seen Sept.20.

A week later, Christian's friend, 18-year-old Pedro Bravo, was charged with first-degree murder under the presumption that Christian was dead.

Earlier, his father said that Bravo had an altercation with Aguilar over a girl, beat him up severely and left him somewhere. The girl who Aguilar was reportedly dating had previously been in a relationship with Bravo.

According to reports by CNN, Aguilar's backpack was found inside a suitcase in Bravo's closet and blood was found at several locations on Bravo's vehicle.

Gainesville Police spokesman Ben Tobias said Bravo changed his account of happenings leading up to Aguilar's disappearance when confronted with 'evidence that disputed his initial statements.'

He is being held without bail.

At Saturday's news conference, Carlos Aguilar thanked all those who helped the family in finding Aguilar.

"We want to....as a family, thank every single person that supported our family during these horrible times, during this pain, during this agony," he said.

The family has begun the grieving process while waiting for confirmation from forensics.
