Three months after Zooey Deschanel and her husband Jacob Pechenik welcomed their first child, the baby's name has been revealed.
The "New Girl" star told People Wednesday at the "Rock The Kabash" premiere in New York City that she and her husband decided to name their daughter Elsie Otter.
"Like the animal," Deschanel, 35, said.
Pechenik said the name was derived from the marine animal See otter.
"We just really liked the name Elsie and then we both love otters -- they're very sweet and they're also smart. They use tools ... they hold hands while they sleep, there's so many amazing things about otters. They're wonderful animals," Deschanel said on this morning's Today show.
The couple has yet to release pictures of their Elsie, but Deschanel's "New Girl" costar Lamorne Morris tells People that she is adorable.
"She's an extremely cute baby," Morris, 32, told People back in August. "She looks like Zooey."
This means Elsie must have inherited her mother's doe-eyed looks.
"Two good-looking parents will make a good-looking kid. Unless there's that one where you're like, 'Oh, you're going to make a terrible child,' " Morris joked. "But that was not gonna happen with these two.'"
Deschanel, who is on maternity leave from her hit Fox series, will be temporarily replaced by Megan Fox.
"I'm super excited - we get to do one episode together. Essentially, [my character Jess] gets on jury duty and has to be sequestered, so the roommates rent out her room for a few weeks. I think [Megan's] going to be fantastic," she told People.
