A Tribute to Video Games on Football Field
ByFootball games' half-time shows have become the most entertaining and awaited short-skits in recent months with college bands going great lengths to stand apart from the crowd with their unique one-of-a-kind performances.
To liven up a boring match or help spectators to hold on to their elevated spirits, the half-time performances are raising a notch up with every game.
This weekend, in their game against Nebraska, Ohio State University's marching band paid a tribute to classic video games during the half-time show.
The 225 member marching band - one of the few all-brass and percussion bands in the US - created both musical and visual arrangements for Pokémon, Halo, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Tetris, and Pac-Man, reports The Verge.
The half-time show featured the Bowser's castle from the classic Princess-Saving-Plumber Super Mario Bros. with two people dressed as Mario and Luigi taking down the Michigan flag and replacing it with an Ohio State flag.
The show closed with a re-enactment of Pac-Man being caught by a ghost, with the band members rearranging themselves to form the words 'GAME OVER'.
Earlier, the Marching 100 band of Ohio University has been known for South Korean sensation Psy's international hit Gangnam Style and LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem among others.
Now, the Ohio State University is following the same footsteps. With the unprecedented video games tribute, the university has done commendable job. The video of the performance has crossed 2 million views on YouTube and still counting.
One of the top comments on the site has made an attempt to redefine the university:
"Ohio State: where the marching band is cooler than the jocks."
Now do we know why the band is called TBDBITL or 'The Best Damn Band in the Land!'
