Nick Chubb Injury Update: Georgia Confirms 'Significant Knee Injury', But Not Torn ACL
ByNick Chubb's knee injury is not the dreaded torn ACL that has felled so many running backs before him, but it is still significant enough to put his season in doubt.
The University of Georgia (UGA) stated in a news release Sunday that Chubb "suffered a significant left knee injury" during Saturday's football game against Tennessee.
On his first carry of the game, the Bulldogs' first play from scrimmage, the sophomore running back tried to take an inside run toward the sideline when a defender tackled his lower half. Chubb tried to bounce away from the tackle, but landed awkwardly and needed help to get off the field.
"According to UGA Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine Ron Courson, the injury involves damage to multiple ligaments and cartilage; however, the damage does not include the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)," read the remainder of UGA's release. "Neither does the injury involve arteries or nerves. Courson said all the damage is repairable and a full recovery is expected following surgery and rehab.
"Chubb is currently in the hospital for observation and surgery would be expected sometime in the next two weeks."
During his weekly talk with reporters, UGA head football coach Mark Richt said he is expecting his tailback to miss the remainder of the season, ESPN reported.
"All rehab is tough, but the best news is that there was no damage to a nerve or anything vascular, like an artery," the coach told reporters. "That was the best news of all, and of course the ACL not being damaged was great as well."
