Playboy's 2012 Top Party School Rankings Place UVa on Top
ByWith every publication of U.S. entering into the business of ranking schools based on wide array of factors-some authentic, some not-so authentic and some just plain weird! So, why should anyone expect Playboy Magazine to lag behind?
Playboy's annual top party school list, released Wednesday has named the nation's oldest public school University of Virginia as the top party school.
"Raise a glass to UVA, whose students know a thing or two about raising glasses and everything important to this list," says Playboy in its website.
Playboy's methodology sounds as dubious as it can get:
"We took America's top 100 colleges and ranked them across 900 data points in three categories: Sex Life, Sporting LIfe, Nightlife."
But, officials of University of Virginia aren't happy with the list and made sure they convey their displeasure. The university, founded in Charlottesville, Va., by founding father and former U.S. President Thomas Jefferson in 1819, has issued a statement expressing its dismay over the ranking.
"It's far more important for the university to be known for our academic achievements in teaching and research, the extraordinarily high graduation rate of our students, and our commitment to providing financial support to all students who have demonstrated need."
It also added that these are the areas for which it has 'consistently been ranked among the best in the country.'
Some students too agree with the school's view.
"I honestly believe it brings some bad publicity to the school," said Thomas Fijal to wtvr.com. "We are an academic university so it's kind of a bad idea to be selling us out as the number one party school."
In the recent U.S. News & World Report Rankings, it was tied at 24th place with University of Southern California in the best National Universities list. Also, came in 2nd among public schools sharing the spot with UCLA.
As far as the worst party school is concerned the magazine points at SUNY College of Environmental Science of Forestry.
Playboy has published a list of party schools in 1987, 2002, 2006, and every year since 2009.
