LSU Football Roster: Les Miles to 'Shufle' Wide Receiver Depth Chart Following 'Sloppy' Win Over EMU
ByThe LSU Tigers' offense looked a lot more vulnerable than their 44-point output would suggest, and head coach Les Miles is prepared to take action.
According to The Associated Press, Miles told reporters at a news conference Monday he is considering re-aligning his wide receiver depth chart. The Tigers' wideouts accounted for four catches against Eastern Michigan and none went for more than 28 yards.
While that could be an indictment on the team's quarterback, Brandon Harris, and his inaccuracy, two receivers, Travin Dural and Malachi Dupre, dropped would-be touchdown passes.
"We're looking at shuffling the lineup. We're looking at all those things," Miles said Monday. "I like the effort of my wide receivers. It's not as productive as it needs to be. It needs to be more in line with the coaching... We have to execute better. Period."
With a 233-yard effort, Leonard Fournette became the first running back in SEC history to record three consecutive games with at least 200 yards on the ground. Even he was critical of LSU's offense, and indicated the team did not take their game against Eastern Michigan seriously enough.
"I really don't care about stuff like that," Fournette told reporters after the game, according to ESPN. "Overall, we are really just disappointed in our performance. We came out sloppy.
"We took them lightly because of their record, because they never did anything," he said. "That's on the leaders. That is our fault. We didn't stop the laughing that was going on in practice, so we have to pick it up this week."
At 2-0 in SEC play, LSU is tied with Texas A&M atop the highly contentious Western division, but the tough part of their schedule lies ahead. The Tigers are scheduled to host Florida in two weeks before visiting Alabama two weeks later and Ole Miss two weeks after that. LSU then hosts Texas A&M for their season finale.
