Michigan State Recruiting 2016: Miles Bridges Picks Spartans, Could Help Tom Izzo Win Another Major Commitment
ByIn Miles Bridges, Michigan State head men's basketball coach Tom Izzo secured possibly the most important piece of his 2016 class.
Bridges is the second five-star prospect in the class of 2016 to commit to Michigan State, but he may not be the last. Izzo has done a tremendous job with the state's top prospects, and there is at least one more he will be pursuing.
"It's home and I'm close to the guys [Cassius Winston, Nick Ward and Josh Langford] that they're bringing in, both on and off the court," Bridges told ESPN in announcing his choice. "I am comfortable with the staff, and I know a lot about the program. Coach Izzo has stayed dedicated to me the entire recruiting process. He is a very loyal guy."
Bridges was reportedly also considering Indiana and Kentucky, but the Flint, Mich. native chose to stay home.
Langford is a five-star guard from Huntsville, Ala. and Ward a four-star center from Gahanna, Ohio, but Winston is a four-star guard from Detroit. Izzo is also pursuing Josh Jackson, a five star small forward from Southfield, Mich., though he is believed to have stiff competition.
Bridges ranks eighth overall in the 2016 ESPN 100 and Jackson is third overall, but they are the third- and second-highest rated small forwards as well. 247 Sports gave Bridges a 0.9962 composite score.
ESPN learned Izzo has been gaining ground in Jackson's recruitment, which could well have something to do with Bridges' recruitment, who was believed to be leaning toward Michigan State for some time.
"It's only 45 minutes away from my home, and they are one of the first schools to recruit me," Bridges told ESPN.com in July. "A lot of guys from my area have gone there and been successful."
