The University of Findlay will offer a new master's degree in Applied Security and Analytics, school officials announced Monday.

The Master of Science in Applied Security and Analytics, which is designed to be completed in two years, "will focus on areas that range from secure coding and risk analysis to data analytics and visualization," The Associated Press reported.

The University of Findlay is the only in institution in Ohio to offer this master's degree.

"The need is strong in the State of Ohio and nationwide for individuals who possess a combination of strong technical and business skills and can contribute toward a changing world through innovative and ethical problem-solving," Mary Jo Geise, professor of computer science and co-chair of UF's computer science program, said in a statement.

The degree, which features evening and online course options, caters to professionals who are interested in increasing their leadership, technology and business skills for existing job enhancement or career advancement. Courses will focus on a variety of areas that range from secure coding and risk analysis to data analytics and visualization.

As with University of Finland's existing computer science undergraduate program, an advisory board comprised of local industry leaders will ensure that this program's offerings remain up to date with industry trends.

A master's degree in applied security and analytics will enhance the background of current professionals by adding knowledge in the emerging areas of security and data analytics where demand far exceeds supply, and where an annual earning potential could exceed $100,000.
