'The W' Begins Rebranding Efforts
ByMississippi University for Women also known as The W or MUW, may have its new look very soon.
The University which is basking in the fame as manifested in the U.S. News & World Report Rankings which named it as the 18th best public university in the south, kicked off its rebranding campaign last week.
The Columbus-based university is commencing its rebranding campaign with six dialogue sessions, which is the first of a series of interactive discussions, reports Commercial Dispatch.
The six dialogue sessions are spread out throughout the month of September and a small group of stakeholders are invited to meet idgroup USA on campus which is a consulting firm that specializes in 'aligning corporate vision, identity and branding for colleges and other organizations.'
Pensacola, Fla.-based idgroup will lead these six broad-based discussions with groups that also include faculty, students, staff, alumni, business, community, and government leaders.
In each four-hour dialogue session, the participants are expected to discuss every aspect of rebranding from public perception and identity to missions, mottos, logos, mascots, the University seal and other elements used in marketing and recruitment.
In his reign, nine-month old MUW President Jim Borsig has largely focused on student recruitment, retention and graduation and considers them as his highest priorities.
"I have been encouraged by the level of excellence, commitment and collegiality I've found at The W in my nine months here, and I have great optimism that this institution has an opportunity to step onto a bigger stage," Borsig said in a statement.
The dialogue sessions are aimed at consolidating the input gathered from every person associated with the university for the better future of MUW. Once these opinions, comments and suggestions are consolidate and based on that feedback, the institution is set to begin the work of crafting a strategic marketing and communications plan and frame branding message.
The reason for choosing idgroup USA for the rebranding lies within Borsig's alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, which also used idgroup USA for its re-branding. In addition, the senior creative director at the firm, Gail Spruill Shaw, is an MUW alumna, reports Commercial Dispatch.
"We want to tell the MUW story to the world," Borsig said. "This process will give us an opportunity to write that story together."
