It's often appalling how little we know about our constitution. It is the foundation for everything the nation stands for and believes in. The constitution partly shapes the morality of the society which adheres to it. Hence, knowledge about the constitution is necessary for everyone who tries to dissect the functioning of humanity as a society.

On the occasion of this constitution month of September, the Lone Star College-Montgomery's Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL), in collaboration with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Margaret Montgomery Chapter, is kicking off a Constitution Lecture Series Thursday, September 20, from 11 a.m.-12:50 p.m.

Lone Star College is a fastest-growing community college system in Texas which also happens to be the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area.

The lecture titled, "Constitution Month - An Overview of the Making of the Constitution," will be presented by Mike Durham, an adjunct professor of government at LSC-Montgomery and an ALL instructor, reports Woodlands Online.

He will explore the ideas and concepts that were borrowed from the constitutions around the world and incorporated to create U.S. constitution.

"September is the 225th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution," said Phyliis Stehm, a DAR regent and ALL geology instructor. "Our DAR chapter is pleased to be a part of the educational process to remind Americans of our roots."

The Constitution Lecture Series will help in understanding the constitution's relevance in the present scenario, as well as the economic impact it has on America. Lectures will be held throughout the fall and focus on the Articles of the Constitution, as well as Constitutional Amendments.

It also seeks to inform the attendees about the electoral process which is crucial as the election month is approaching.

"Learning about Constitutional amendments will help people of all ages have a better understanding of the purpose and process of the electoral college, including how we elect our nation's president," said Donna Smith Burns, program coordinator for ALL at LSC-Montgomery. "The purpose of ALL lectures is to educate the public and to help them make better decisions in their own life."

The lecture is to be held in the college's Health Science Center (Building B), Room 102. Its open to public and no entry fee is charged.
