The soaring popularity behind online courses lies in their easy accessibility. No matter in which time zone one lives, access to knowledge in today's globalized world has become easy.

Online learning also helps on-campus students to break the monotony of classroom lectures with interactive modules of online courses. But, online courses' success mainly depends on the e-learning platform that needs to be in par with the classroom environment and yet be interactive and flexible.

Hence, to enrich the student experience of online learning the Western Illinois University has selected Desire2Learn Learning Suite to be its new e-learning platform for the students of School of Distance Learning, International Studies and Outreach.

The university based in Macomb says that their online courses are aimed at 'adult students with other responsibilities' and traditional students interested in pursuing an 'affordable and challenging undergraduate degree program.' Hence, to supplement the on campus experience with online courses, the university chose Desire2Learn.

"Desire2Learn Learning Suite has the features we need to support online learning. It's incredibly easy for students to use and it provides our faculty with advanced tools and functionality to improve their courses," said Dr. Richard Carter, executive director, School of Distance Learning, International Studies and Outreach, Western Illinois University.

According to the press release Desire2Learn Learning Suite can create a flexible learning environment for every learner which takes a unique approach towards each student and personalizes the student's learning experience. For those who cannot attend classes in regular classrooms it brings the classroom to the students' doorsteps.

And for on-campus students, the learning suite can apparently 'supplement the classroom experience and provide the tools needed by faculty to strengthen courses.'

Hence, through the suit, the students get an opportunity to experience the blend of online and in class environment which serves the purpose of education better. It provides students 'with multiple points of contact and opportunities for interaction with course material.'

John Baker, President of Desire2Learn is of the opinion that Western University of Illinois along with Desire2Learn have created 'a unique environment that blends the online, mobile, and classroom experiences and provides access to a high quality educational experience regardless of geography.'
