After earning every single first-place vote in the Associated Press' preseason College Football Poll, Ohio State retained all 61 votes after the first week of games.

The first team in the history of the poll to be unanimously voted first overall, the Buckeyes took care of business in Blacksburg, Va. against Virginia Tech. Ohio State won 42-24 to beat the only team that best them a year ago.

What more is the Buckeyes were shorthanded with the suspension of four players, including All-American defensive end Joey Bosa. In week two of the AP's College Football Poll, Ohio State was the unanimous number-one team.

Rounding out the top five was Alabama (2), who leap-frogged TCU (3), Baylor (4), and Michigan State (5), the latter two remained in place.

According to the AP, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) broke their own record for having the most teams in the Top 25 in a single week. The SEC had 10 teams make the poll after the conference went 12-1 in the opening week of games, breaking its own record of eight teams.

Joining Alabama in the Top 25 was Auburn (6), Georgia (10), LSU (14), Ole Miss (17), Arkansas (18), Missouri (18), Tennessee (23), and Mississippi State (25).

Despite Oregon (7) and USC (8) landing in the top 10, the Pac-12 had a rough opening week, going 7-5 overall and seeing Arizona State and Stanford suffer upset losses and falling off the AP Top 25.
