With many college football teams' starting quarterback competitions resolving, Ohio State head football coach Urban Meyer will not likely reveal his decision until game time, or just before it.

Ohio State goes to Virginia Tech on Monday, Sept. 7 to open their season and there is no indication whether Meyer will start either J.T. Barrett or Cardale Jones, ESPN noted. But the coach is now refueling speculation that he could wind up playing both.

"If it was different skill sets, we probably would [need to decide], but they're not," Meyer said at his weekly press conference Monday, according to ESPN. "If you look at J.T.'s game plan when he was our quarterback and Cardale's, it was very similar. There's a chance they'll both play, as well, so that hasn't really [been a factor] with our mindset with a game plan on offense."

When Nick Saban was choosing between Blake Sims and Jake Coker to start for Alabama at this time last year, he decided to play both. However, after both saw playing time early in the season, Sims separated himself and became Alabama's starter.

It is not clear if that is what Meyer plans to do, but his comments contradict the narrative that he is choosing between two QBs with different styles. In fact, Meyer stated Barrett and Jones are similar, but they obviously have different strengths.

Like his Big Ten counterpart Jim Harbaugh, Meyer apparently wants to guard his decision to force Virginia Tech to prepare for both rather than one. However, Meyer's decision has been intensely followed all summer and scrutinized with every public comment he makes on it.

"If you're not going to [start], get ready," Meyer said at the press conference. "I'd like to see both guys involved. It could be in-game; it could be weekly."
