Oregon Basketball Recruiting 2016: Payton Pritchard Chooses Ducks After Leaving Oklahoma
ByArguably the top 2016 basketball recruit in the state Oregon, Payton Pritchard will stay just there nearly two months after de-committing from Oklahoma.
The six-foot-one point guard confirmed to ESPN that he chose to commit to Oregon and was also considering Kansas and Michigan. Pritchard ranks 43rd on the ESPN 100 for the class of 2016.
247 Sports gave him a similar ranking among recruits in his class, also giving him a composite score of 0.9784.
"I visited Oregon twice during the summer unofficially, because it is only about 90 minutes away from my house," Pritchard told ESPN. "I wanted to stay in the state, and I have a great relationship with Coach [Dana] Altman."
Pritchard is Altman's first ESPN 100 recruit in the class of 2016 and only one of a handful of players to commit to a Pac-12 school. He is also the second 2016 commit to choose Oregon after de-committing from another school, joining Keith Smith, who left San Diego State.
ESPN evaluators called Pritchard a "knock down shooter" with range who can shoot of the catch or the dribble. He also has great toughness and a high basketball IQ for a player who may be considered undersized at six-foot-one and 175 pounds.
But possibly the most important attribute of Pritchard's is that he is great with ball distribution and getting his teammates involved, a hallmark for any point guard.
