The North Dakota State Bison is already in trouble of defending their four-year running Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) title after a week one upset loss to the Montana Grizzlies.

With six seconds on the clock, Montana lined up on the one-yard line, down 35-31. The play was one the Seattle Seahawks probably wished they dialed at least one more time last season: a rushing attempt up the middle.

In a goal line formation with extra blockers in the backfield, Joey Counts took the handoff, sidestepped a swarm of offensive and defensive linemen and burst through a hole into the endzone. The score put Montana up 38-35 with two seconds on the clock.

In the first game of Bob Stitt's tenure as Montana's head football coach, the win was a "statement" for the Grizzlies, who are looking to shakeup the FCS.

"Here's my statement: How about that?" Stitt said after the game, according to The Associated Press. "That was unbelievable. It was pretty crazy how calm I was and everybody all around us was. The players, man, they were so focused.

"They came here to win every game. They came here to be first. We didn't play today to be second."

North Dakota State's dominance of the FCS is well documented, as this was just the team's fourth loss in its last 62 games, The AP noted. Stitt's game plan was to run as many offensive plays as possible to wear the opposition down, keep the score close, and then hope to win the fourth quarter.

"They made one more play than we did," North Dakota state head football coach Chris Klieman told reporters, according to the AP. "It was a great game and my hat's off to Coach Stitt. I thought they did a better job than we did the second half."
