The first major summer quarterback competition is settled, with UCLA head football coach naming Josh Rosen his starter for week one.

A true freshman, Rosen beat out Jerry Neuheisel, a junior who has spent last years as Brett Hundley's backup.

According to The Los Angeles Times, Mora made the announcement during a media session after practice on Wednesday. While he is only a matter of months removed from high school football, Mora has liked what he has seen.

"When you're recruiting the No. 1-ranked quarterback in the country, you kind of hope that he lives up to that billing, and we haven't played one single snap of real football yet, but at this point he's living up to that billing," Mora told reporters Wednesday.

Mora stated the competition between the three quarterbacks: Rosen, Neuheisel, and Mike Fafaul eventually came down to the first two.

According to ESPN, Rosen was widely regarded as the top QB recruit of the class of 2015. He also enrolled early at UCLA, arriving on campus and starting classes in Jan., which Mora indicated was a mark in the positives column.

"He's been here for winter, spring, summer so they know him," Mora told reporters. "It's not like he just got here two, three weeks ago. Being an early admit has really helped and I think what has happened over the course of the last few months [his teammates have] come to know him, like him and respect him."
