Sacha Killeya-Jones Recruiting Update: Sacha Killeya-Jones Chooses Kentucky After Leaving Virginia
ByMore than a month after de-committing from Virginia, Sacha Killeya-Jones chose Kentucky as his new landing spot.
The six-foot-11 power forward from Chapel Hill, N.C. chose to leave Virginia June 2, ESPN reported, and settled on Kentucky Wednesday. He also had offers from Kansas, N.C. State and Wake Forest, but told ESPN playing for John Calipari influenced his decision.
Killeya-Jones ranks 56th overall on the ESPN 100 and 247 Sports gave him a composite score of 0.9813 and a four-star rating. His athleticism and scoring ability will likely keep him playing power forward, but his height could also allow him to play center, especially if he adds muscle.
Killeya-Jones is Calipari's first recruit in the class of 2016, but only because Jamal Murray re-classified to the class of 2015. Calipari is also pursuing several of the highest rated recruits in Killeya-Jones' class and has not hid his excitement over what might come of those efforts.
But neither is the newest Wildcat recruit.
"I look at what Coach Calipari has done with players like myself, and I see the way he prepares them for the next level and it's impressive," Killeya-Jones told ESPN. "He is a really genuine person who is a demanding coach. I felt very comfortable with him and [I] trust him.
"A lot of coaching staffs tell you what you want to hear but I liked their straightforward approach."
