The latter part of the ranking is as follows, in addition to some honorable mentions...

3. Florida State: Sean Maguire and Everett Golson

Just like at Oregon, Florida State has a two-year backup going up against an incoming transfer with a great track record. But Florida State got a decent look at Maguire when he led the Seminoles to an overtime victory over Clemson last Sept. filling in for Jameis Winston.

Golson is coming over from Notre Dame, where he led the Irish to the National Championship Game as a freshman. After losing a season to an academic suspension, Golson got off to a great start in his junior season, but started throwing more interceptions and less completions overall.

Like any QB competition, there are no solid reports to suggest either one has a leg up, but Florida State head football coach Jimbo Fisher did state the two are splitting first-team reps.

4. Alabama: Jake Coker, Cooper Bateman, Blake Barnett, David Cornwell, and Alec Morris

Morris is a junior, Bateman is a sophomore, and Barnett and Cornwell are freshmen, but none of the above have any NCAA Division I experience. Coker does, but he will be out of practice for "several days" due to a minor foot injury.

Even before the injury, numerous reports indicated Alabama head football coach Nick Saban did not feel like any of QBs vying for the starting role had stood out from the rest. That is not good news for Coker, who has spent the past three seasons at two different schools as a backup.

5. Texas A&M: Kyle Allen, Kyler Murray, and Jake Hubenak

For a few weeks last fall, it seemed as though the future of Texas A&M football post-Manziel was Kenny Hill, before he cooled off big time and transferred. After taking over for Hill, Allen turned some heads by throwing 13 touchdowns and five interceptions over his final five games.

An incoming freshman, Murray was the top-ranked dual-threat QB in his recruiting class, whereas Allen has proven thus far to be more of a pocket passer. Murray's skill set may be better suited at Texas A&M, but he will have to prove he is ready.

Head coach Kevin Sumlin indicated the two are splitting time with the first team, and also noted Jake Hubenak, a junior college transfer, is in the mix as well.

Honorable mentions:

Florida: Treon Harris and Will Grier

LSU: Anthony Jennings, Brandon Harris, and Justin McMillan

UCLA: Jerry Neuheisel and Josh Rosen
