American Airlines and The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) have announced the launch of the travel industry's first gift card that supports education.
The US economy's fragile state has resulted in the increase of the college tuition fee. Many students from modest background are unable to get quality education. Apparently, 95 per cent of students who receive support from UNCF need financial aid. In this regard, American Airlines is providing an opportunity to the travellers to support UNCF in its mission of getting minority students to study.
"At present, 60 percent of students who receive UNCF support come from families with annual incomes of less than $30,000, and more than 50 percent of students at UNCF colleges are the first in their families to attend college" said Michael L. Lomax, President and CEO of UNCF.
He also added that the American Airlines' UNCF Gift Card is expected to generate donations and play a key role in empowering minority students economically through educational advancement.
American Airlines UNCF Gift Cards are available in denominations from $50 to $1,500 and can be applied toward the purchase of any American Airlines, American Eagle or AmericanConnection published fare, or any Oneworld partner or Codeshare flight designated as American Airlines.
When this UNCF Gift Card is purchased, $5 of every $50 will be contributed to UNCF. Unlike many gift cards, there is no expiration date.
