The University of Florida (UF) will grant Adam Lane, a running back on the football team, a release from his scholarship, allowing him to transfer elsewhere.

According to The Orlando Sentinel, UF head football coach Jim McElwain would not provide any specific details to Lane's in publicly addressing the matter.

"Adam Lane has some family issues that he is dealing with and wants to be closer to home," McElwain said in a statement. "As you've heard me say many times, family comes first in this program and we will grant him his release and we will do everything we can do to help him."

Lane was named Most Valuable Player in the Gators' Birmingham Bowl game 28-20 win over ECU. He carried the ball 16 times for 108 yards and a touchdown. Lane was also a fan favorite among UF football fans, GatorsOnly.com noted, for his high-effort running style despite being undersized.

He also gained his fans' approval for how he handled an incident in which a camera caught an unfortunate shot of the back of his pants during the bowl game.

"It was the best thing that could have happened," Lane said after the game., according to The Sentinel. "It got a lot of attention and just put me in a place where I was out there publicly and people knew who I was. I really didn't get a lot of grief from it. A lot of people were really more focused on how well I did in the game than anything.

"I feel like it was that way because I embraced it."

Lane was in the mix for touches out of the backfield for Florida this season, albeit in a crowded Gators' running back corps heading into camp.
