Princeton Review: University of Wisconsin Takes Top Spot in 'Lots of Beer' Ranking
ByCollege students have always had the reputation of drinking a lot of beer, and many have done a lot of beer drinking to support the stereotype.
But The Princeton Review has accepted that and turned it into a ranking appropriately titled "Lots of Beer." Still, some of these schools are in states that care deeply for the quality of their beer.
1. University of Wisconsin - Madison
Location: Madison, Wis.
Acceptance rate: 50 percent
Claim to beer fame: The Miller Brewing Company is situated in Milwaukee, about an hour's drive directly east of UWM.
2. Pennsylvania State University
Location: State College, Penn.
Acceptance rate: 50 percent
Claim to beer fame: "America's Oldest Brewery" is the slogan and cornerstone of The Yuengling Brewing Company, which is just about 100 miles east of Happy Valley.
3. Lehigh University
Location: Bethlehem, Penn.
Acceptance rate: 34 percent
Claim to beer fame: From Lehigh's campus to Allentown, Penn., one can visit a number of bars and breweries on The Lehigh Valley Ale Trail.
4. University of Florida
Location: Gainesville, Fla.
Acceptance rate: 47 percent
Claim to beer fame: Florida is chock full of beer drinkers, and on the state's flagship university's campus? Forget it.
5. University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign
Location: Champaign, Ill.
Acceptance rate: 59 percent
Claim to beer fame: The Illinois Craft Brewers Guild is a nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of the state's beer, enough said.
6. Syracuse University
Location: Syracuse, N.Y.
Acceptance rate: 53 percent
Claim to beer fame: The Empire Brewing Company in Syracuse developed a beer cleverly called "Strikes Bock," but the buzzkills over at Lucasfilm decided to sue them for copyright infringement.
7. Florida State University
Location: Tallahassee, Fla.
Acceptance rate: 55 percent
Claim to beer fame: See no. 4 and note that FSU is right behind in terms of enrollment.
8. Colgate University
Location: Hamilton, N.Y.
Acceptance rate: 27 percent
Claim to beer fame: New York State has breweries and brewpubs, and then there is the city to boot.
9. West Virginia University
Location: Morgantown, W.V.
Acceptance rate: 86 percent
Claim to beer fame: WVU is in walking distance to several breweries in Morgantown including the Morgantown and Mountain State Brewing Companies.
10. Hamilton College
Location: Clinton, N.Y.
Acceptance rate: 26 percent
