Roseman University of Health sciences is offering a new accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program at its campus in South Jordan, Utah, school officials announced.
The program will offer students the opportunity to earn a nursing degree in less than two years from an accredited university. The program combines online learning with hands-on practice conducted at a new state-of-the-art nursing skills lab on campus.
"With the demand for nurses ever increasing, now is a great time to become one," Dr. Susan Watson, campus dean of the South Jordan ABSN program, said in a statement. "Because a prior bachelor's degree is not required for admission, this program is ideally suited for individuals looking for a career change or those already in healthcare looking to advance their careers by becoming an RN. By offering three program start dates each year, students can avoid the long wait lists common with other nursing programs."
An essential component of the curriculum is clinical rotations in area hospitals and healthcare organizations, as they provide experience working with real patients. This accelerated program was designed specifically to give students the flexibility to learn when and where they want and to complete their degree more quickly than with traditional programs.
The need for registered nurses is on the rise across the nation, but specifically in Utah, where sources have estimated that RN employment opportunities will grow by 31 percent between 2012 and 2022, compared to a 19 percent nationwide growth rate.
Unlike many other accelerated nursing programs, previous experience in healthcare or an existing bachelor's degree is not required for enrollment as long as certain prerequisites and credit hour requirements are met.
The first group of Utah ABSN students will begin classes August 3rd, with additional upcoming start dates in October, February and July.
