The Kappa Delta Rho (KDR) national fraternity removed the membership status of 38 Penn State University (PSU) students.
The students are still enrolled at PSU, but will no longer be KDR members. The fraternity determined they violated the organization conduct policy for posting photos of naked, unconscious women to two private Facebook pages.
According to the Daily Collegian, the fraternity's national office recognized their PSU chapter's newly appointed president, Tom Friel, and other select members for taking leadership roles in responding to these wrongdoings.
PSU previously suspended the chapter's recognition on campus for three years and KDR also revoked the chapter's membership for the same period of time.
"We are grateful to the young men of the Penn State chapter who assumed responsibility after the regrettable events of the last few months had occurred," Joseph Rosenberg, KDR's national executive director, said in a statement. "We look forward to our efforts to rejoin the Penn State community after this three-year period has expired."
The pages in question were the subjects of investigations from the State College and PSU police departments. The probes also uncovered evidence that the pages were used to discuss and share instances of drug dealing, hazing and other illicit activity.
"This foundation reflects our national commitment to proper conduct, which includes our ongoing effort to support all chapters at all campuses across the country," Rosenberg's statement read. "These programs support our undergraduates and host institutions in educating our undergraduate brothers on issues of sexual assault, sexual harassment and the abuse of alcohol and drugs."
