Iowa State University (ISU) does not seem to be in a rush to find their next head men's basketball coach and are considering a number of potential candidates.
Citing unnamed sources, ESPN learned the ISU athletic department will start the interview process this weekend in Atlanta, where the Dan Perkins search firm is based. Among those ESPN's sources said will be interviewed are Bryce Drew, Brad Underwood, Steve Prohm and T.J. Otzelberger.
As Chris Mannix, of Sports Illustrated reported, Lindsey Hunter is also going to be considered in the search.
Hunter should be considered a wild card, as his coaching experience is limited to assistant jobs for the NBA's Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors, the latter of which he held for just the 2013-2014 season. However, Hunter served as the Suns' interim head coach in 2013.
Regardless, the other candidates expected to be in Atlanta this weekend are stronger fits for the Cyclones.
Drew was an assistant coach at Valparaiso from 2005 to 2011 before taking over as the team's head coach. His team has won the Horizon League Tournament in 2013 and 2015, the latter for which he won the conference's Coach of the Year honor.
Since taking over at Steven F. Austin in 2013, Underwood is 61-8 and has won back-to-back Southland Conference Tournaments in 2014 and 2015.
Prohm has helmed Murray State since 2011 when he was promoted from his job as an assistant. In his first head coaching job, Prohm is 104-29 and has won the Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year Award twice.
But ISU could ultimately wind up hiring from within, as Otzelberger served as Hoiberg's assistant from 2010 to 2013 before returning in 2015, just before the coach's departure. Otzelberger has no head coaching experience, but he does know ISU basketball and aided in recruiting some of the team's best players.
