A student at Yale University leapt from a ninth-floor apartment to his death after stabbing another student, who is expected to recover.
According to the Associated Press, the anonymous male student died after falling six stories onto the third-floor terrace at the Taft Apartments, an off-campus residence building for the Ivy League school. The 21-year-old victim, Alexander Michaud, is at Yale-New Haven Hospital and is in stable condition.
Police only said the two were acquaintances and are not releasing any further details of the stabbing.
The New Haven Police responded to the incident around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Yale Daily News reported. The newspaper identified Michaud's attacker as Tyler Carlisle, noting the two likely knew each other through the Yale Political Union's Party of the Right.
There was one witness to the incident, the Daily News learned, who the police are in the process of interviewing.
Yale College Dean Jonathan Holloway reportedly notified the campus community of the incident in an email. He let students know they could seek support or counseling from Yale Mental Health Services and the Chaplain's Office.
"In this difficult time, we extend our sympathies, thoughts," Holloway said in the email, "and prayers to the families of these two members of our community and wish Alexander a complete recovery."
