The University of Georgia (UGA) is keeping head men's basketball coach Mark Fox around for anther two years.
According to ESPN, the two sides agreed on a new five-year contract Friday, but the coach and athletic director were discussing an extension since the season ended. Fox's Bulldogs reached the NCAA Tournament a second time since taking over in 2009.
"Mark and I discussed an extension following the season," UGA athletic director Greg McGarity said in a statement. "I am very pleased the Board approved the extension today, and we are very appreciative of the leadership Mark provides to our basketball program. Mark continues to build on the solid foundation he has established as our head coach."
Fox was already under contract for three more seasons, but the new contract is for five years with an average annual value of $2 million. He can also make an additional $150,000 if he reaches the 2019-2020 season, the final one on the new deal.
"I'm really thankful to the administration," Fox told ESPN. "Georgia has become my home, and I'm really hopeful that this can be my home forever."
Georgia finished tied for third in the SEC at 11-7 behind Arkansas and Kentucky. The SEC appears to be in flux this offseason, with LSU bringing in consensus top-recruit Ben Simmons while Kentucky and Arkansas have had to part with several players to the NBA.
Georgia is returning a good amount of sophomores and juniors and will look to take more strides in what has been steady improvement in Athens.
