Rumored to be eyeing a jump to the NBA, John Calipari seemingly had a perfect team waiting for him in New Orleans, but he is not interested.

Citing an unnamed source to Calipari, NOLA.com reported the head men's basketball coach at the University of Kentucky reached out to the New Orleans Pelicans about their vacancy at that post. The website acknowledged salary was the likeliest roadblock, in addition to what his responsibilities would be with the Pelicans.

At Kentucky, Calipari is making about $8 million a year through the 2022 season, which would make for a hefty buyout on top of the $5 million/year the Pelicans would reportedly like to pay their next coach. Calipari was also said to be looking for some sort of role in the team's personnel.

Those factors considered, Calipari was rumored to be interested in the job because he would be reunited with Anthony Davis, a center he coached at Kentucky who is on the precipice of superstardom. Also in New Orleans is Tyreke Evans, a guard Calipari coached at Memphis.

But those wound up moot points Tuesday when Calipari posted an unambiguous tweet to his verified account. He is simply not interested in leaving his job at Kentucky.

A previous report during the offseason indicated Calipari was pining to coach in the NBA again, the Brooklyn Nets in particular, calling his failure in the league a blemish on his resume. He was also connected to the Cleveland Cavalier job last offseason when LeBron James made his return.

All three aforementioned teams were considered ideal fits for Calipari, but each time he either accepted a contract extension at Kentucky or publicly shot down the rumors.
