A student at Penn State University (PSU) was reported missing when his parents could not find him to bring him to the school's commencement ceremony Sunday.

According to the Centre Daily Times, Jon Steindorf, 23, had told his parents he completed his degree requirements this past fall semester and was going to wait until spring to walk in the ceremony. But after he went missing Friday, Steindorf's parents learned their son was not even enrolled in classes last fall.

"We love him and want him to come home to us," Paul Steindorf, Jon's father, told the Times. "That's all that matters to us is that he's safe at home.

"We thought he'd graduate, and that was our understanding that he completed fall classes and he delayed graduation until now, but the most recent information we received was he was not on the list to graduate."

Jon Steindorf's roommate last saw him around 11:30 a.m. Friday; they lived at an off-campus apartment on Pugh Street in State College, the Times reported. Local police said they have received calls regarding possible sightings, but Steindorf reportedly left his wallet, cellphone and keys behind, making him impossible to track.

Friends of the missing student are also checking out his favorite hiking trails, but to no avail as of yet.

"The police have gone through his apartment, talked to his roommate and took his phone for forensic analysis," Steindorf's mother, Joanne, told the Daily Collegian. "We've been in contact with all of his friends, everybody they know, and really are just at a loss as to his whereabouts."

Per a State College Police media release, here is an official description of the missing student:

"Steindorf is described as a 23 year old white male, 5'10" tall, 170 lbs with brown hair and blue eyes. He may have his black specialized bicycle with him and a red backpack. If anyone has any information as to Steindorf's whereabouts please contact the State College Police Department."
