Todd McShay's fifth - and probably final - NFL mock draft has some major changes throughout, but not at the top.
Despite the speculation that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may not have completely settled on taking Jameis Winston with the first overall selection, McShay kept him atop his fifth mock draft. Going second to the Tennessee Titans was Marcus Mariota, noting the team is likely to field trade requests for the pick.
If fellow ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper also keeps Winston affixed to the top overall selection, it will clearly signal how the Buccaneers are unaffected by Winston's "off-field issues." Though most of those concern knucklehead incidents like shoplifting and shouting obscenities, Winston is also named in a sexual assault civil lawsuit.
But McShay's biggest surprise was projecting Georgia running back Todd Gurley to go sixth overall to the New York Jets. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport learned Gurley "checked out fine" at "medical rechecks" regarding his torn ACL. Such a development makes him the clear number-one running back in the draft.
Possibly unlikely to land Winston, Mariota or top wideout Amari Cooper, the Jets may turn their attention to the backfield, as McShay's mock draft suggests.
Gurley's top-10 selection also puts pressure on other teams looking to upgrade at running back via the draft. However, McShay had the Cardinals, a team known to be looking for a running back, passing on Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon with the 24th pick.
Also said to be eyeing an upgrade in the backfield is the Dallas Cowboys, who pick 27th and would miss out on Gordon if the Ravens take him 26th overall.
